Why don’t our children learn the history of the Rif in Moroccan school?
From the Battle of Annual and the Rif War to the experience of the Rif Republic and other important historical events that shaped the region and Morocco, the history of the Rif remains only marginally represented in school curricula.
Why aren’t younger generations learning more about the history of their own region in school? Is it simply a question of how the curriculum is designed, or has Rif history still not received the recognition it deserves?
In this episode, Rif history researcher El Yazid Idrioch explores these questions and discusses the importance of teaching local history, preserving collective memory, and passing the history of the Rif on to future generations.
