Morocco Advances Major Water Infrastructure Projects, Including “Beni Azziman” Dam in Driouch

As part of the national plan aimed at accelerating the development of major water infrastructure, Minister of Equipment and Water Nizar Baraka announced significant progress across several key projects, including the “Beni Azziman” dam in the Driouch province. The dam is expected to become operational starting in November, marking a strategic step toward improving water resource management in the region.

The project is considered one of the most important hydraulic developments in the province, as it is expected to ensure drinking water supply for local populations, support agricultural irrigation, and reduce the risk of seasonal flooding that affects the area from time to time.

According to official data, construction work on the dam is progressing at a steady pace without delays, benefiting from the broader momentum currently characterizing Morocco’s water sector in 2026.

The minister also noted that the current year has seen notable progress in several other projects. The “Sidi Abbou” dam entered into service in early April, while the completion of the “Khnk Kro” dam is expected by the end of the year. In addition, the “Tamri” dam project has advanced significantly and was completed in May 2026, three years ahead of its original schedule.

These developments reflect the government’s commitment to implementing royal directives aimed at addressing water scarcity challenges, particularly in the eastern region. The “Beni Azziman” dam is expected to play a key role in supporting local development and strengthening the agricultural economy of the Driouch province.
