Twiza Festival Returns for Its 20th Edition Under the Theme “Defending Love Against Hate”

Tangier, Morocco – The Mediterranean Festival of Amazigh Culture Foundation has announced that the 20th edition of the Twiza Festival will take place in Tangier from July 23 to 26, 2026, under the theme “Defending Love Against Hate.” The milestone edition celebrates two decades of promoting Amazigh culture while fostering dialogue, diversity, and coexistence.
Since its launch in 2005, the Tawiza Festival has grown into one of Morocco’s leading cultural events, attracting prominent intellectuals, researchers, writers, artists, and media professionals from Morocco and abroad. Over the years, it has established itself as an important platform for discussing issues related to culture, language, identity, history, and contemporary social challenges.
A Platform for Dialogue and Cultural Exchange
According to the organizers, this year’s program will feature a series of intellectual forums, literary encounters, and public discussions addressing themes such as love, hate, language, culture, and history. The festival aims to encourage dialogue between different schools of thought and artistic traditions while promoting values of openness and mutual understanding.
Although the festival dates and theme have been announced, organizers have not yet released the full schedule, list of speakers, or artistic lineup. Additional details are expected in the coming weeks.
Celebrating Amazigh Heritage
The organizers emphasized that the festival remains committed to highlighting Morocco’s cultural diversity, with the Amazigh heritage serving as one of its central pillars. Through conferences, literature, music, visual arts, and cultural exhibitions, Twiza continues to showcase the richness of Amazigh language and culture while remaining open to Mediterranean and international cultural experiences.
The event also seeks to promote critical thinking, freedom of expression, and intercultural dialogue, values that have defined the festival since its inception.
Twenty Years of Cultural Impact
Twiza was first organized in 2005 by the Twiza Association in Tangier before the Mediterranean Festival of Amazigh Culture Foundation assumed responsibility for organizing the annual event in 2007.
The word “Twiza” comes from the Amazigh language and refers to the traditional practice of collective solidarity, cooperation, and mutual assistance, values that continue to inspire the festival’s mission.
Throughout its history, the festival has expanded beyond intellectual debates to include book fairs, concerts, art exhibitions, workshops, literary events, children’s activities, and showcases of local products.
A Summer Cultural Landmark
Held just days before Morocco’s Throne Day celebrations, the festival has become one of Tangier’s most anticipated summer events, contributing to the city’s cultural and tourism appeal while welcoming thousands of visitors, including members of the Moroccan diaspora.
As it marks its twentieth edition, the Twiza Festival continues to strengthen its reputation as a leading forum for Amazigh culture and a bridge for dialogue between Morocco, the Mediterranean region, and the wider world.
