Nador university institutions to be restructured

The restructuring project of the Faculty of Multidisciplinary Studies in Nador has entered a critical phase following the Government Council’s approval of draft decree No. 2.25.561, which amends and supplements decree No. 2.90.554 regarding university institutions and university campuses. This decision marks the culmination of an administrative and academic process launched months ago aimed at developing the university offerings in the Nador province and strengthening its position within the national higher education system.
The Council of Mohammed I University in Oujda had approved, during its meeting held on April 22, 2025, the project to divide the Multidisciplinary Faculty of Nador into four independent and specialized university institutions, as part of a vision aimed at keeping pace with the rapid growth of the institution and improving the quality of training and scientific research.
This new restructuring is expected to lead to the creation of four university institutions: the Faculty of Economics and Management, the Faculty of Applied Sciences, the Faculty of Law and Political Sciences, as well as the Faculty of Arts, Languages, and Humanities, allowing each institution to develop its academic and research programs according to its specific characteristics and specializations.
This transformation comes in response to the development experienced by the Multidisciplinary Faculty of Nador in recent years, as it has evolved from an emerging university institution to an academic space attracting thousands of students and hosting dozens of programs and specializations, which has caused the multidisciplinary faculty model to face challenges related to management, supervision, and the expansion of the pedagogical offering.
This division is expected to contribute to improving study and university supervision conditions, developing scientific research, and creating new specializations that respond to current economic and technological transformations, particularly in the fields of digitalization, artificial intelligence, engineering, economics and management, law, and the humanities.
The project is also expected to strengthen Nador’s position as a rising university hub in the Eastern region, especially given the major development projects underway in the area, foremost among them the Nador West Med port project and the associated industrial and logistical projects that require qualified human resources and specialized competencies.
Observers believe that the independence of the new university institutions will help expand academic and scientific partnerships, attract researchers and students from various regions of the kingdom, as well as enhance the university’s openness to its economic and social environment.
The government’s approval of the new decree is a fundamental legal and regulatory step to bring this project into effect and open a new chapter in the path of higher education in the provinces of Nador and Driouch, in line with national orientations aimed at modernizing the Moroccan university and developing its roles in training, research, and innovation.
