Nador Native Choaib Ramdani Honoured with Royal Award in the Netherlands
Choaib Ramdani, originally from Nador, Morocco, has been awarded the Royal Order of Orange-Nassau by the city of Roermond, the Netherlands, during the annual “Rain of Honors” ceremony recognizing volunteers and community contributors. The honor reflects more than 20 years of dedicated service to youth development and social integration.
Since 2002, Ramdani has led Tigers, an indoor football club that evolved from a sporting activity into a full social project — helping young people integrate, find training, and access employment through sport. In 2012, he founded DB4ALL, a youth centre in Roermond’s Donderberg district offering homework support, career guidance, and legal assistance to families and youth.
The center won the Orange Fund’s Neighborhood Award in 2021, receiving €40,000, and distributed nearly 21,000 meals during Ramadan as part of community solidarity initiatives. In 2023, Queen Máxima officially visited both Tigers and DB4ALL — a testament to the national recognition of Ramdani’s social model.
His work stands as a compelling example of how sport, education, and community support can combine to empower migrant communities — and raises the question of whether similar initiatives could be adopted more broadly across Europe.
