Aquaculture honor goes to Jamila Kroum from Nador for a marine algae project spanning 16 hectares

On April 29, 2026 the city of Rabat hosted a national meeting on women’s leadership and entrepreneurship in the field of marine aquaculture, organized by the National Agency for the Development of Marine Aquaculture (ANDPM), chaired by Zakya Driouch. This meeting was dedicated to honoring three women at the national level, in recognition of their contributions to the development of this sector and the promotion of investment and innovation within it.
Among the honorees, Jamila Kroum, head of the Future Cooperative for Marine Algae (Taawoniyat Al Mustaqbal lil Thouloub Al Bahriya), a native of the Nador region, stood out as the first woman in the area to actively engage in aquaculture, a field that for years remained far from female presence.
A Scientific Project with Developmental Dimensions
Jamila Kroum leads a project spanning 16 hectares, focused on the cultivation and valorization of marine algae, adopting an approach that combines fieldwork with scientific research. The team includes 10 women, all holding academic degrees in the biological field, including master’s degrees, as well as doctoral researchers and specialists in smart agriculture.
This initiative contributes to creating a local economic and social dynamic by opening new horizons for women in a maritime sector based on innovation and sustainability, which makes Jamila Kroum’s journey a model that combines local leadership with impact at the national level.
