International Festival of Cinema & Common Memory to be held in Nador

The Center for Common Memory for Democracy and Peace has announced the organization of the 15th edition of the International Festival of Cinema & Common Memory, which will take place from October 30 to November 4, 2026, in the city of Nador, under the theme: ‘Memory of the Future.’

This edition comes amid an international context marked by rising tensions related to memory and history issues, accompanied by an urgent need to promote the values of peace and coexistence. Through its diverse programming, the festival continues to solidify its position as an international space for dialogue between cinema and human issues, and as a platform for reflecting on the complex relationship between memory and the construction of the future.

In this edition, the festival places special importance on youth as key actors in shaping the ‘Memory of the Future,’ by equipping them with tools for critical thinking and engaging them in intellectual and cultural discussions related to issues of justice and memory.

The organizers revealed the composition of the jury panels, which include prominent artistic figures reflecting the diversity of international cinematic experiences. Roberta Bazzi will chair the feature fiction film jury, while Lamia Chraibi will chair the documentary film jury and Randa Maaroufia will chair the short film jury. This composition reflects the festival’s commitment to strengthening the presence of female talent in decision-making positions.

This edition will feature a diverse program including international film screenings, intellectual and academic seminars, training workshops for youth, alongside parallel cultural and social activities.

The festival will also host a major international symposium titled: ‘Toward Developing a Methodology for Transitional Justice Between Nations: From National Memory to Common Memory,’ with the aim of expanding the debate on justice and peace issues to the level of international relations.

The opening ceremony is expected to witness the awarding of the international ‘Memory for Democracy and Peace’ prize to a national or international figure who has contributed to promoting the values of peace and coexistence.

Through this edition, the organizers of the International Common Memory Cinema Festival reaffirm their continued commitment to making culture a tool for critical thinking and a lever for building a more just and humane future, at the creative intersection of cinema and the questions of memory and justice.
